Horror movies you won’t want to watch alone: 23. Evil Dead

If Evil Dead did one thing, it convinced me that staying in a remote cabin in the woods is not the best idea ever. This movie, which was a soft-reboot of the original series (as well as a continuation), follows a small group of people who find themselves haunted and murdered by a supernatural entity.

The film kicks things off by showing us a cult burning a young girl, only for us to learn that she was actually a demon. Fast forward and now we have a man and his girlfriend meeting up with his sister and friends at a cabin in the woods. His sister is detoxing, and the group is there to offer her support.

In the cellar of this cabin, which happens to be the same place where the girl died, the group finds things like rotting animal corpses, a gun, and a book that should definitely have been left alone. After reading something out of the book that apparently unleashes the demon from the past, the group finds themselves being haunted and hunted.

And it doesn’t take long before one member of the group ends up possessed, leading to some chilling moments that will leave you rethinking the next time you plan a solitary retreat to a wooded area.

This movie is supernatural horror done right, but with the added magic of having Bruce Campbell popping up in an end credits scene that acts as a callback to the original movies. There is just something about this film that works to terrify you, so the last thing I would suggest is watching this one alone.
