Yep, you read that right. The long-rumored Slumber Party Massacre remake from Shout! Factory is officially in the works, with a new home on Syfy.

Three years ago, we reported that this redux was supposedly in the works from Shout! but nothing really ever seemed to come from it, so now we know it’s for sure happening!

This juicy news is an exclusive that comes from Deadline. Shout! Studios seems to have been shopping their idea around for a while, and now Syfy is taking over as the official home for this cult film remake.

The new movie comes from the team behind The Banana Splits Movie and Vagrant Queen, Danisha Esterhazy, with a screenplay written by Ash Vs. Evil Dead’s Suzanne Keilly. This remake is slated to premiere sometime later this year on Syfy.

Who will star in the Slumber Party Massacre remake?

Per Deadline, the remake will feature a cast that includes Hannah Gonera, Frances Sholto-Douglas, Mila Rayne, Alex McGregor and Reze-Tiana Wessels. Filming already wrapped last month in South Africa, and Shout! Studios will deal with the film’s worldwide sales and distribution across multiple platforms, with Blue Ice Pictures serving as producers.

As for the plot, that’s staying firmly under lock and key, although we do know that the new movie is set to be a “reimagining” of the old one.

“Remaking one of the seminal films of Roger Corman and Amy Holden Jones’ early work is exciting and audacious. But there are no better hands in which to place this challenge to Danishka Esterhazy, Suzanne Keilly, and the team at Blue Ice Pictures. Their creative vision will both honor the Corman ethos and captivate today’s audiences,” said Brent Haynes, Shout’s Head of Original Content Development.

For those who missed it, Shout! recently acquired 270 Roger Corman films when they took over the New Horizon Picture library, which could be the first of several new films revolving around the Corman movies should Slumber Party Massacre be successful.
