Courteney Cox and Greg Kinnear to lead new horror comedy series Shining Vale
By Mads Lennon
Earlier this week Starz announced that it had given an eight-episode series order to the new horror-comedy series Shining Vale starring Gale Weathers herself, Courteney Cox. The actress will be joined by The Stand star Greg Kinnear and Mira Sorvino.
Per the official press release, Shining Vale follows a family in turmoil who are thrust into the supernatural. It sounds like Cox’s character, a former wild child turned “lady porn” author named Patricia “Pat” Phelps starts interacting with demons who might actually help her get her life back on track.
The basis of the series is that this dysfunctional family relocates from the city to a house where a bunch of bad stuff has happened in the past because OF COURSE THEY DO! Why not move into a house that once served as a murder scene? What could possibly go wrong!?
Courteney Cox stars in Shining Vale as a woman potentially possessed
No one else in Pat’s family notices the weird stuffing going on in the house. She starts to think she might be possessed, especially since these days she’s sober, but feels listless and unfulfilled. She and her husband Terry Phelps (Kinnear) rarely have sex, her teenage kids could not care less about what she’s doing and Pat is struggling to write another book.
As for Sorvino, she plays the character Rosemary who could be “Pat’s alter ego, a split personality, her id, her muse or a demon trying to possess her.”
Right now it’s too early to tell when the show might air, although I’m assuming sometime late this year or maybe early next year. Either way, the series sounds like it could be hilarious and it has a great cast, so I’m definitely looking forward to watching it. What about you?
Shining Vale will air on STARZ in the U.S. and Canada and on its international streaming platform Starzplay across Europe, Latin America and Japan.
