Season three of Game of Thrones gave us possibly the most horror-filled episode of any series.

The Rains of Castamere, also known as The Red Wedding, was like a sledgehammer to the head (and the heart).

After the wedding of Edmure and Roslin, the guests, including Catelyn, Robb and Talisa, are celebrating with food and drink. Then, everything starts to unravel, as Catelyn realizes something is not right. The doors close, she notices that Roose Bolton is wearing armor under his clothing, the musicians start to play the signature tune of the Lannisters and horrified viewers watched the carnage unfold.

Talisa is stabbed repeatedly RIGHT IN HER PREGNANT BELLY, both Robb and Catelyn are shot with arrows, and in an act of desperation, Catelyn grabs Frey’s child bride and threatens to slit her throat. She was mistaken in thinking he cared about that and watches helplessly as Roose stabs Robb, killing him.

With an anguished scream, Catelyn slits the girl’s throat before one of Frey’s guard’s slices her throat open. It was unbearably shocking, bloody and horrific. Of course, we knew by this episode that GoT spared no one, lead characters were killed off on occasion, but we lost three lead characters in a matter of minutes.

Honestly, it was the vicious stabbing of Talisa that was most horrifying, it was basically the same as stabbing an infant to death right in front of us. Let me put it this way: I had heard spoilers about this episode, and I was still a shaky, teary mess by the time the end credits rolled.

Boy, re-living these horror-filled episodes has me all worked up, think I will go watch the squeaky-clean television series Little House on the Prairie for a while to calm down. I just hope it’s not the 2-parter Sylvia, in which a 15-year-old girl is raped by a masked man.

Shudder May schedule: Joe Bob, Frankenhooker and Castle. dark. Next
