After waiting for more than a year past the film’s initial delay, we finally have a dazzling and chilling trailer for A24’s retelling of the King Arthur legend. Starring Dev Patel, The Green Knight comes from David Lowery (A Ghost Story)  and will release in theaters on July 30.

If you’ve heard of King Arthur or any of the Arthurian legends, you might be familiar with the poem called “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight,” which was translated by J.R.R. Tolkein in the 1920s. The new movie is an adaptation of that poem, with a delightfully creepy edge.

I mean, this trailer has just about everything you could want in a dark story about knights and creatures, including giants, talking foxes, giant axes and lots more. Plus, Patel looks the part as Sir Gawain and has been getting great buzz for his performance already. It’s going to be exciting to finally see The Green Knight play out on the big screen.

The Green Knight trailer shows us the creepy-looking eponymous knight

The upcoming dark fantasy adventure film follows  Sir Gawain, King Arthur’s obstinate nephew, who goes head to head with the “Knight” in question. The trailer gives us a look at this Green Knight, a creepy being that definitely doesn’t look human and has remarkable green, almost tree-like skin.

Beyond that, the trailer is just full of stunning visuals, and you can tell they spared no expense in the costuming department or the production design. This is going to be a lush, haunting film that should probably be watched on the biggest screen possible if you can manage it.

Apart from Patel, the film also stars Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Sarita Choudhury, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Barry Keoghan, Ralph Ineson and Erin Kellyman.
