How to watch Cruel Summer Season 1, Episode 5 tonight

A brand new episode of Cruel Summer airs tonight on Freeform. You can watch Cruel Summer Season 1, Episode 5, “As the Carny Gods Intended” at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on the network after a showing of Beauty and the Beast.
In the previous episode, the main focus was on the annual Wallis family hunting trip and how it changed from 1993 to 1995. Since the focus last week was on Kate, I’m guessing this week’s episode will return to Jeanette’s perspective. Jeanette wasn’t really present in last week’s episode at all, although the impending lawsuit hung over Kate’s life like a dark cloud.
While preparing for the lawsuit, Kate and her new best friend Mallory decided to review her old therapy tapes. In them, Kate mentions someone named “Annabelle” from her time in captivity. The problem is, Kate claims she has no memory of Annabelle. So, who on earth is she?
What’s happening in Cruel Summer Season 1, Episode 5?
Cruel Summer Episode 5 will primarily focus on the Skylin County Fair. Each episode has had some kind of big event at its center, from Jeanette’s birthday to hunting trips to the garden party to fireworks, etc. It’s a great way to anchor the hour and to see how the town and characters change in 1993, 1994 and 1995. Per the synopsis, Jeanette and Kate will cross paths at this fair, possibly more than once.

This week’s first sneak peek shows Jeanette meeting with her lawyer in 1995. Her lawyer advises her to help get people on her side. “I’m your gun for hire, Jeanette, but I need you to feed me the bullets.”
Cruel Summer Season 1, Episode 5 sneak peek: Is Jeanette stalking Kate?
The other sneak peek for this episode shows Jeanette and Derek at the 1994 county fair. Jeanette is on the lookout for Jamie and Kate. She seems to want to confront Kate in person which Derek thinks is a terrible idea. He also accuses her of stalking Kate.

Most of the photos released by Freeform for tonight’s episode look like they’re from the Skylin County Fair where the main action of the hour will take place. Derek pops up again, which I find interesting. He’s Jeanette’s brother and he seems to have an important role to play in this story even though we don’t know that much about him, so it’ll be interesting to see what he does in this episode.
