Cruel Summer Season 1, Episode 6 recap: A new deposition threatens Jeanette’s case.

In 1995, Cindy and Greg Turner’s anniversary is just downright depressing. Jeanette spends the morning watching old home videos of her family during happier times. Then her lawyer arrives to inform her of a potential hiccup in their case: a new deposition from Tanya Peterson.

For some reason, Tanya decides it would be a good idea to be deposed by the Wallis family lawyers and confess to seeing Jeanette at Martin’s house that night in 1993. Jeanette is confident that Tanya won’t go through with it, and by the end of the hour, we know why. Her attorney doesn’t know what Tanya will say, but she warns Jeanette this could hurt her case.

Jeanette takes matters into her own hands by returning that boutique, the same one she visited with Mallory two years prior. She blackmails Tanya with the knowledge she has about Tennille’s bio dad. It’s enough to get Tanya to back down.

When Jeanette’s lawyer calls her later, it’s with good news. Tanya didn’t say anything incriminating. “And if you had anything to do with this, I don’t ever want to know.”

The relationship between Greg and Jeanette also starts to make progress, mostly thanks to Angela’s meddling. Greg actually invites Jeanette and Vince to play a game of cards, and it almost looks like a scene from pre-Martin Harris 1993.

In Cruel Summer Season 1, Episode 6, we also finally see Cindy Turner in 1995. She’s taken on an edgier look with dark lipstick and a leather jacket. She visits Angela at the bar, and the two have a normal, friendly conversation about their lives and how their mothers boxed them in and didn’t help them reach their full potential.

Cindy really wants to know how Jeanette is doing. She says her daughter blames her for the separation and hardly talks to her anymore. “She misses you.”

When the conversation turns to Greg, Angela comments that she at least didn’t “steal” Greg since they were already broken up. “Is that what he told you?” Uh-oh. It looks like Angela might not have gotten the full story.
