A brand new episode of Cruel Summer Season 1 airs tonight on Freeform! You can catch Cruel Summer Season 1, Episode 7, “Happy Birthday, Kate Wallis,” at 10:00 p.m. EST on Freeform following a showing of Mrs. Doubtfire.
The previous episode of Cruel Summer focused on Jeanette’s mother, Cindy Turner, who we know isn’t as big a part of Jeanette’s life in 1995. The reason is because Jeanette mostly blames her mom for her parent’s separation. In 1994, Cindy slowly started realizing her daughter has been lying to her all along after finding the key to Martin’s house in her room.
In 1995, Jeanette’s case was threatened by a potential new deposition given by Tennille Peterson’s mom Tanya. But Jeanette shut that down real quick after it became evident that Jeanette had serious dirt on Tanya.
What’s happening in Cruel Summer Season 1, Episode 7?
In tonight’s episode, it’s Kate Wallis’s birthday, and she’s struggling to keep a family secret she’s been keeping for weeks now. Remember, Kate caught her mom Joy cheating on her father, and as far as we know, Kate still hasn’t shared it with anyone.
Speaking of Kate’s mom, she tries to convince Kate to go on The Marsha Bailey Show. We know that Kate eventually does since Jeanette watched a videotape of it in the first episode; it’s where Kate eventually tells the whole country that she thinks Jeanette saw her while she was in captivity. Plus, Mallory has a birthday surprise for Kate. What could it be?

Cruel Summer Season 1, Episode 7 sneak peek: Vince confronts Mallory
In a brief sneak peek of the episode, Vince confronts Mallory when she comes into the video rental store where he works with Kate in tow. He calls her new friendship something straight out of the Twilight Zone. Mallory says it’s no different than him still being friends with Jeanette, but Vince begs to differ.
