Everything we know about Escape Room: Tournament of the Champions

After multiple release date delays, Sony Pictures is finally giving us the sequel to the surprising 2019 hit Escape Room. Escape Room 2, also known as Escape Room: Tournament of Champions, will continue the story from the 2019 film where surviving characters Zoey Davis (Taylor Russell) and Ben Miller (Logan Miller) will be forced to compete in another deadly assortment of traps, tricks and escape rooms.
This time, Ben and Zoey will be accompanied by several other previous winners of the very same escape rooms they narrowly escaped before. If you recall, from the end of the first film, Ben and Zoey decided to go after the company in charge of these deadly challenges, bringing them to New York City.
But this time, the Gamemasters have stayed one step ahead of our champions, pairing them with several other survivors from many other rooms stationed across the country.
Who stars in Escape Room 2?
Apart from Miller and Russell, the new film will see several new characters played by Indya Moore (Pose), Holland Roden (Teen Wolf), Isabelle Fuhrman (Orphan), Carlito Olivero (Step Up: High Water), Thomas Cocquerel (The 100) and James Frain (True Blood). The film is directed by Adam Robitel, who returns from the first movie.
What is the plot of Escape Room 2?
The official plot synopsis has been kept under wraps, but judging by the film’s recently released trailer and the film’s official subtitle, “Tournament of Champions,” we can predict that the sequel will see champions from across the country compete to win and survive if they can.
As Polygon noted, the trailer seemed to give away the bulk of traps in the movie, but the first film did that in its initial trailer, too and still left plenty of surprises to shock audiences in the theater.
When & where will Escape Room 2 be released?
The new film is set to release in theaters on July 16, and thanks to a new deal between Sony and Netflix set to start in 2022, I’m guessing that we’ll see this film on the streaming service early next year.
