Horror movies to watch in the summer

It’s officially summer, everyone! While the temperatures have been steadily rising for the past couple of months now, June 20, 2021 marked the first day of the new season in the United States and we’re definitely feeling the heat. As we get into the 90 to 100-degree territory, air conditioning and a good movie marathon are a must to avoid serious sunburn and sweat. And what better binge session than some good horror movies?

Here are six of the best summer horror movies to start watching right now to beat the heat!

Midsommar

Directed by the great Ari Aster and released in 2019, Midsommar is a truly gruesome look at a pagan cult with a totally badass lead in Florence Pugh. The film follows Dani (Pugh) who, while mourning the loss of her parents and sister, decides to go along with her boyfriend Christian (Jack Reynor) and his friends on a trip to Sweden for a traditional festival. A handful of mushrooms, human sacrifices, and some serious toxic behavior from Christian later, and this little vacation turns into hell.

You’ll beat the heat while watching Midsommar indoors this summer, but we can’t guarantee you won’t break a sweat with all the goings-on in Sweden.

WHERE TO STREAM: Midsommar is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
