I Know What You Did Last Summer

If you haven’t watched the original I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997), stop what you’re doing right now and put it on! The film which was directed by Jim Gillespie might’ve received mixed reviews when it first came out, but the cultural significance this one has on the world of horror cannot be ignored. Starring heartthrobs Freddie Prinze Jr., Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Phillippe, and Sarah Michelle Geller, it’s a classic ’90s slasher with a pretty solid story to follow.

Based on the book of the same name by Lois Duncan, I Know What You Did Last Summer shows us what happens when you try to cover up a murder and think you can get away unscathed. It might not be the scariest movie on this list, but it’s such great summer fun.

WHERE TO STREAM: I Know What You Did Last Summer is available to stream on HBO Max and to rent on Amazon Prime Video.

Friday the 13th

Say what you will about some entries in the Friday the 13th franchise, but the original from 1980 is forever a fantastic movie. The film that introduced the world to Jason Voorhees and Camp Crystal Lake, you can’t help but think of summer when you watch this one. And the twist at the end? Unbeatable! It still gives me chills every time I watch it. The film is directed by Sean S. Cunningham, and Betsy Palmer’s performance as Pamela Voorhees is one you cannot miss. Plus, this movie kickstarted one of the most popular horror franchises ever.

Friday the 13th is prime summer horror, and absolutely must be added to your watch-list this season!

WHERE TO STREAM: Friday the 13th is available to stream on Starz or on Amazon Prime Video and Hulu with the Starz add-on. It’s also available to watch on Philo.
