In case you haven’t heard, Netflix is adapting Søren Sveistrup’s breakout hit thriller novel The Chestnut Man into a series. Even better, the dark Scandinavian crime thriller comes straight from Sveistrup, who is also the creator of The Killing, so there’s a good chance this new series is going to be super creepy and well-executed.

On Monday, Netflix released the first teaser for The Chestnut Man. The teaser doesn’t reveal much except that a killer is on the loose, murdering people and leaving behind strange figurines made of, well, chestnuts.

The vibe of the teaser is what you’d expect from another Nordic noir series, which many of us can’t get enough of. It looks like it’s going to be every bit as grim, moody, and atmospheric as one could want in a show of this nature. The teaser also plays an eerie children’s song in the background, it feels very similar to the vibe created by the book, which received critical acclaim when it released.

What is The Chestnut Man about?

The Chestnut Man (produced by the same team behind Netflix’s original series Ragnarok) is set in a quiet, traditional Copenhagen suburb. One October morning, the police find a young brutally murdered with one of her hands missing. The only real clue found at the scene is a man made from chestnuts.

Danica Curcic stars as ambitious detective Naia Thulin. Naia is assigned to the case with new partner Mark Hess (Mikkel Boe Følsgaar). The little chestnut men left behind at the serial killer’s crime scenes are his calling card and together, the detectives link the chestnut man to another case, a girl who went missing a year earlier and was presumed dead. The missing girl happens to be the daughter of politician Rosa Hartung (Iben Dorner).
