Evil Season 2, Episode 2 recap: What is the second bowl?

As for why David started discussing the just war, it ties back to Michael. While trying to get in touch with God again with drugs, David sees Michael in his dream. Michael starts referring to the “second bowl,” likely a reference to the seven bowls of Revelations. These seven bowls, or plagues, are apocalyptic events that will cause half of the earth to die to allow for rebirth. If the second bowl is about to tip, then what was the first?

After seeing Michael, David notices a news bulletin reporting on a mysterious new illness sweeping the nation. I’m assuming that’s a pointed COVID-19 reference by the Kings. It’s clever and creepy of them to use the real-life pandemic as a potential sign of the impending apocalypse!

Not long after seeing Michael for the first time, David meets Sister Andrea (Andrea Martin) a new nun at the refectory who tells him to stop hurting himself to see God.

Evil Season 2, Episode 2 recap: Leland underestimates Sheryl.

Elsewhere, Leland gets pissed off when David calls to inform him his exorcism has been delayed by a month. Leland vents his rage on Sheryl by canceling their wedding in the middle of the cake, testing and telling her the truth, that he’s only been using her to hurt Kristen.

At home, Leland finds out that Kristen has been in his secret hidey-hole because his red-string alarm is moved. He immediately confronts Sheryl and berates her for telling Kristen where he hid it. Of course, we know Sheryl didn’t say anything, but she’s not one for taking Leland’s crap. It’s so much fun watching Sheryl slap Leland around and evolve into a badass.

Sheryl warns Leland not to mess with her, alluding to all those nasty skeletons he has in his closet. She also says she’s dated “demons” like him before. Interesting choice of words, Sheryl. Does she mean literal demons, or is she just referring to a bad string of breakups?

Slapping Leland isn’t enough for Sheryl, though. She uses her own blood to write a message for him in his office, reading, “die you stupid f**k pig.” So eloquent.

Leland is tickled pink by Sheryl’s attitude and even tries to win her back with a bottle of alcohol. But Sheryl knows better now. He wants to neutralize her, given how many of his secrets she now knows, so she dumps half the bottle at his feet and slams the door in his face. Sheryl – 3, Leland – 0.
