First look: Adrien Brody explores a gothic manor in EPIX's Chapelwaite

We’re going to Preacher’s Corners this August. Premium network EPIX announced today that Chapelwaite, which is based on the short story Jerusalem’s Lot, would be premiering later this summer.

To clarify, this isn’t a retelling of Salem’s Lot. Jerusalem’s Lot is a short story prequel to the book that was included in King’s 1978 collection Night Shift. This story is set more than a century before the events of Salem’s Lot.

Jerusalem’s Lot is an epistolary short story set in the fictional town of Preacher’s Corners, another Maine location. The story is told through letters and diary entries, mainly from the main character, aristocrat Captain Charles Boone.

What is Chapelwaite about?

The forthcoming EPIX series follows Captain Boone, who relocates his three children to his ancestral home after his wife passes away at sea. His ancestral home is called Chapelwaite, hence the name of the show, and it resides in the small town of Preacher’s Corners.

Throughout the show, Boone must confront his family’s sordid history and fight against the darkness that has haunted the Boones for generations. In the process, Boone will cross paths with Rebecca Morgan, an ambitious writer who has returned to her hometown after attending Mount Holyoke College with an advance to write a story for the Atlantic Magazine.

Rebecca is inspired by the Boone family and Chapelwaite and applies to be the manor’s governess. While attempting to create the next great gothic novel, Rebecca becomes embroiled in the secrets of the estate and the Boone heritage.

Adrien Brody stars as Charles Boone while 12 Monkeys star Emily Hampshire joins him as Rebecca Morgan. The series filmed in Nova Scotia.
