Delaware: Swamp Thing

At this point, you might be questioning why the state of Delaware has Swamp Thing as its creature feature. And while I hear you, there are actually some good reasons for this particular choice (at least in my mind).

The thing about Delaware is that while it is often known for being the “First State” that is not all it is known for. In fact, Delaware is also known for their agriculture and the fact that they do not have a National Parks System, which might be surprising considering they are literally the First State and rife with historical spots. So what does any of that have to do with Swamp Thing?

Well, considering their level of agriculture, which includes the production of corn, apples, soybeans, and wheat, to name a few, why wouldn’t we want a vegetation-based creature to represent the state. Plus, in the comics, Swamp Thing is a hero. And this is Delaware, so they kind of deserve to have a more heroic monster representing the people. Problematic or not, Swamp Thing is a hero and he is basically walking vegetation, so it feels like a win-win.

We love a good hero monster, and in this case, it just feels like this is the perfect choice for the state. And sure, we might have put Swamp Thing in a state with more swamps, but that seems way too obvious. Instead, it is all about his current status as a walking vegetable(ish) patch and his ability to save people that makes him a perfect choice for the monster of the state of Delaware.
