Washington: Hydra

The state of Washington has plenty of legends, with two revolving around sea creatures in the Puget Sound. With one being a serpent-like creature and the other being more like a giant octopus, it makes sense that the monster that would be needed to represent the state of Washington would combine both of these creatures.

Ultimately, it was the Hydra that felt like a perfect fit for the Evergreen State.

A mythical serpent of ancient Greece, the Hydra was known to terrorize the people. With seven heads and poisonous breathe, this monster of the ancient world was deadly to all. After all, even their blood could cause your death if you even touched a dropped.

Even cutting one of its heads off would only lead to two more growing back. But ultimately, the Hydra was defeated by a Hero with a golden sword.

However, what if the Hydra wasn’t defeated and instead was laying low waiting for a new people to represent and terrorize. And considering the different creatures already said to be in the depths off the coast of the state, perhaps the Hydra is just waiting to take over and prove once again why he was the terror of the Greeks.

(Maybe we will need to get ready with our own golden sword if we want to defeat the Hydra for ourselves.)
