Alaska: Qalupalik
While it would be easy to pull up legends for the state of Alaska when there is already a sea monster taking up space in the state. Or at least this creature is swimming in the waters along the coast waiting to attack (but not all the people).
Currently dwelling in the freezing waters of the arctic is the Qalupalik. A sea creature from, Inuit legend, the Qalupalik is known to have arms and legs much like a person, and that is where the comparison to a human ends. Its skin is green and bumpy. There are fins running down its back and up its head. Their hands are webbed with claws at the end of the finger-like appendages.
Considering the Qalupalik is said to have a home near Alaska (among others), it makes sense to allow this monster of the sea to remain exactly where it is. And since legend has it that this sea creature is all about snatching children who get too close to the water’s edge, it makes sense that this monster is one to avoid.
If you hear a humming sound coming from the icy waters, be prepared to run, because the Qalupalik is coming. And maybe just stay away from the edge of the water like your mother always tell you to. In fact, it seems like this legend is very much a similar story as many other boogeymen of the world, a cautionary tale for children everywhere from their parents.
No matter how you learn of the Qalupalik, it seems like this is one to avoid, whether you are a child or not.
