Horror-tinged Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin casts two Little Liars

News is coming in regarding the upcoming Pretty Little Liars spinoff series Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin! 1428 Elm has learned that the HBO Max series from Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has cast its first two lead actresses and set a director.

Lisa Soper has been tapped to direct the first two episodes of the upcoming Warner Bros. Television show. Her previous credits include Chilling Aventures of Sabrina, which is fitting since Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is supposed to be a “horror-tinged” version of the original Freeform series based on Sara Shepard’s book series. Aguirre-Sacasa also created Sabrina so the two have worked together before.

Who will star in Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin?

Chandler Kinney and Maia Reficco are the first actresses to be cast in the upcoming series. You’ll recognize Kinney from Zombies 2 and the short-lived FOX series Lethal Weapon while Reficco previously appeared in Kally’s Mashup, Evita, and Strangers.

Kinney is set to play Tabby, an aspiring director and horror movie buff. Reficco has been cast as Noa, a sarcastic track star who is trying to get her life back on track after spending a summer in juvenile detention.

What is Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin about?

The new series might share the Pretty Little Liars name, but it doesn’t actually have anything to do with Rosewood. It still exists within the same universe as the original show and the other spinoff series Ravenswood and The Perfectionists, but Original Sin is a “dark, coming-of-age, horror-tinged drama” set in a new town and following a new generation of Little Liars.

"Twenty years ago, a series of tragic events almost ripped the blue-collar town of Millwood apart. Now, in the present day, a group of disparate teen girls — a brand-new set of Little Liars — find themselves tormented by an unknown Assailant and made to pay for the secret sin their parents committed two decades ago…as well as their own. In the dark, coming-of-age, horror-tinged drama PRETTY LITTLE LIARS: ORIGINAL SIN, we find ourselves miles away from Rosewood, but within the existing Pretty Little Liars universe — in a brand-new town, with a new generation of Little Liars."

The series is slated to start production later this summer at Upriver Studios in New York.
