American Horror Story star Lily Rabe has been cast opposite Elizabeth Olsen and Jesse Plemons in the upcoming HBO Max original limited series Love and Death, which is based on the true story of murderous housewife Candy Montgomery.

For those unfamiliar with the case, Candy (Olsen) murdered her friend Betty Gore with an ax in 1980. Rabe will portray Betty, the wife of Allan Gore (Plemons). Patrick Fugit, who you might recognize from the short-lived Cinemax horror series Outcast, will portray Candy’s husband, Pat Montgomery.

The series, produced by Lionsgate, is inspired by the book Evidence of Love: A True Story of Passion and Death in the Suburbs and a collection of articles from Texas Monthly, reports Variety.

The sordid and shocking tale began in 1978 when Candy started having an affair with Betty’s husband, Allan and later culminated in the shocking murder of Betty Gore with an ax.

Love and Death has an extremely impressive cast

The cast of the upcoming HBO Max series is proving to be quite impressive. Many are looking forward to seeing what Olsen does next since her incredible, acclaimed turn on WandaVision but Rabe and Plemons are also both talented, award-winning actors who create a compelling picture of what this series could be.

Rabe is a talented actress who recently starred in Bruna Papandrea’s Tell Me Your Secrets for Amazon Prime Video and has received numerous accolades throughout her career. While she’s best known for recurring in the FX anthology series American Horror Story, it’s hardly her only role.

Love and Death comes from writer David E. Kelley through David E. Kelley Productions. The series is also produced by Nicole Kidman and Per Saari through Blossom Films; Scott Brown and Megan Creydt through Texas Monthly; Michael Klick and Helen Verno, Matthew Tinker; and director Lesli Linka Glatter.
