The Dexter revival is bringing another significant character back from the dead for a second chance at life, well, sort of. While Deborah Morgan was famously killed off in the Dexter series finale, sources have confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Jennifer Carpenter would be returning to reprise her role as Dexter’s sister.

We previously reported that John Lithgow was announced to return as one of Dexter’s most terrifying enemies, Arthur Mitchell a.k.a. The Trinity Killer, so Deb won’t be the only familiar, dead, face to return.

Fans are already theorizing how these two characters will be part of the 10-episode Dexter revival. It’s not unheard of for the show to bring back characters who have passed on, Dexter’s dead father played a significant role in the series despite dying before it started. Dexter would often talk to his dad via hallucinations or remember how his father taught him to handle his “dark passenger” in flashbacks and dream sequences.

It’s likely that in the revival, which takes place 10 years after the finale when Dexter disappeared in Hurricane Laura and put himself in self-imposed exile, Dexter will talk to Deb in some capacity, and potentially Arthur, too.

Clyde Phillips, who served as the showrunner on the first four seasons of Dexter, is set to return for the revival. He previously commented that working on this show would be like a second chance at ending the Showtime series the right way. The 2013 finale was famously polarizing and considered the worst finale of all time by many.

Jennifer Carpenter previously discussed the possibility of returning in a Dexter revival

Funnily enough, Carpenter also previously talked about what it would take for her to come back and do another stint on the series. In 2013, during a postmortem with THR, she discussed what it would take to get her to return.

“[It would take] an extraordinary script many, many, many years from now. I don’t know if that’s possible because people don’t come back from the dead.” she said.

Given that both Lithgow and Carpenter are coming back, could we see other dead characters return in the revival?
