Evil Dead Rise release date, cast, synopsis, trailer and more
By Mads Lennon
The Evil Dead franchise is set to continue with a new game and another supernatural horror film. Evil Dead Rise will move the action away from the franchise’s signature “cabin the woods” setup to a house in the city. The new movie also sees a new director, Lee Cronin, step in to direct.
Rather than going to theaters, Evil Dead Rise is being produced for the WarnerMedia streaming service, HBO Max. The film will serve as the fifth installment in the Evil Dead franchise.
Will Bruce Campbell be in Evil Dead Rise?
Sadly, no, the long-time star of the franchise and Ash Williams himself Bruce Campbell will not be appearing in Evil Dead Rise, although he is heavily involved in the upcoming Evil Dead game.
And don’t think that Campbell not starring or Sam Raimi not directing automatically means the film will be bad. Campbell recently told Entertainment Weekly that Raimi handpicked Cronin, an Irish director who recently did the film The Hole in the Ground.
He also worked with Raimi on a few Quibi projects in a producing capacity. It’s similar to how Raimi chose Fede Alvarez for the 2013 Evil Dead remake, which ended up being a big hit, even with diehard fans.
Evil Dead Rise release date
We don’t have a set release date yet except that the film is expected to come out on HBO Max in 2022. Cronin recently shared that production on the movie was halfway finished after production began in early June 2021 in New Zealand.
Evil Dead Rise synopsis
The official synopsis for the movie is:
"Evil Dead Rise takes the undead action away from the cabin in the woods and into the city as two estranged sisters’ reunion is cut short when flesh-possessing demons thrust them into a battle for survival."
While chatting with EW, Campbell also emphasized that this film would be book-centric and “all about the Necromonicon.”
Evil Dead Rise cast
The film stars Alyssa Sutherland (Vikings, The Mist), Lily Sullivan (Picnic at Hanging Rock), Gabrielle Echols (The Girlfriend Experience), Morgan Davies (The Hunter), and Nell Fisher.
