Stephen King has done basically everything in media. Whether it’s writing novels, producing television, seeing his work made into films, or even creating short story anthologies, there isn’t much he hasn’t accomplished. The horror king is now moving into podcast territory, adding yet another impressive feat to his resume.

1428 Elm has learned that Audio Up Media, IHeartMedia, and Emmy Award-winning producer Lee Metzger have partnered to bring one of King’s acclaimed horror short stories Strawberry Spring to life via podcast. The short story is part of his classic 1978 collection of short stories, Night Shift, so if you haven’t read it yet I highly recommend checking it out!

Stephen King’s first-ever adapted podcast boasts an impressive cast

Not only will King’s short story be brought to life with a podcast, but the upcoming project already nabbed itself an impressive cast featuring Garrett Hedlund, Milo Ventimiglia, Herizen F. Guardiola, Sydney Sweeney, Ken Marino, Al Madrigal, and Brec Bassinger. Emmy Award winner Philip Alberstat is set to produce. Metzger is also set to write and direct the limited series.

This chilling, dark mystery podcast follows a journalist who hears the name “Springheel Jack” while listening to the radio one night. Hearing the name reminds him of when he was a student attending New Sharon College and first heard of the serial killer. The hero decides to hunt down the murderer as the dark mystery unfolds.

Metzger is a lifelong fan of the author and says, “I couldn’t be more excited to work with Jared, Audio Up, and iHeart Media to bring this story to life. I couldn’t ask for a better project for my first scripted podcast.”

Conal Byrne, CEO of the iHeartMedia Digital Audio Group added, “Having the opportunity to take this classic story thriller written by the most recognized horror author of all time, Stephen King, and turn it into a scripted podcast for listeners is pretty special.”

We don’t have an official release date yet but the podcast is supposed to release later this summer. It’s not clear if all episodes will be published at once or if they’re planning to release them weekly.
