6 things you missed from Evil Season 2, Episode 6
By Mads Lennon
Evil Season 2, Episode 6, “C is for Cop,” presents us with some new plot developments but with so much happening there might be a few things you missed! From the jabs at Dick Wolf and his cop-oriented universe to learning about the twinkie defense, here are some moments you might have overlooked while watching the latest episode.
6 things you might have missed from Evil Season 2, Episode 6
6. Let’s talk about Dick Wolf
“Mick Carr” is an obvious reference to Dick Wolf, the superproducer behind multiple television shows on NBC including the Law & Order and One Chicago universe. In Evil Season 2, Episode 6, Mick runs five different shows and many of them glamorize dirty cops and poor policing tactics that often revolve around police brutality and underhanded intimidation methods.
Ironically, the actor who plays Mick, Fredric Lehne, has appeared on some of Wolf’s shows like Chicago Fire and Law & Order: SVU. He also played the yellow-eyed demon Azazel in Supernatural!
5. Ben’s nighttime recording
In a previous episode this season, Ben set up his phone to record what happens while he sleeps to determine if Abby is real or not. It was never addressed in the follow-up episode, but Ben finally mentions that he didn’t see anything on the recording this week during one of his dream conversations with Abby.
4. What is the twinkie defense?
Kristen says that Turley’s claims of a demonic influence making him see a gun is a twinkie defense. The twinkie defense is a slang term in legalese for when criminals claim they have a mental impairment that prevented them from being of sound mind when they supposedly committed the crime.
The term originated during the criminal case of Dan White, who was charged with murdering San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and Harvey Milk. White said that because he had eaten twinkie cupcakes before the murder, he had a sugar high that prevented him from having the actual intent to murder. The defense successfully argued this and thus White was only charged with manslaughter, not murder.
3. What is Cas-3?
If you pause and read the article Ben was reading about his old job, it mentions that some of the gene-edited embryos were implanted in women. Plus, Evil Season 2 has mentioned “Cas3” a few times and Abby talks about CRISPR, CRISPR Cas3 is a real thing.
I admit that I can’t decipher all the technical jargon, but it’s basically a method of genome editing, manipulation, and DNA shredding. I think we can safely assume this will directly relate to the RSM fertility clinic.
2. Eddie the doll
Okay, so when Sheryl first broke out her creepy doll I thought it might be a Leland voodoo doll or something. That doesn’t seem to be the case. I looked up to see if there were types of dolls in folklore that you can make “sacrifices” to in exchange for wishes and didn’t notice any.
It sounds more like the djinn, actually. But I do know there is a popular haunted doll named Robert at a museum in Florida. I don’t know if the writers were thinking about Robert when creating Eddie, but thought I would mention it!
1. Mismatched calendars
This is, what I imagine, was just a goof. But in the scene where David is looking at Cop Buster on his laptop. The bottom of the laptop screen shows his calendar icon saying August 2. But when Kristen gets the text from Sheryl and we see her phone screen, you can see the iPhone date claims it’s actually March. I’m guessing March is the real date in the show since it’s supposed to be cold outside.
New episodes of Evil Season 2 return on August 29.
