Carnage is coming and he’s not afraid to slip you some tongue. Venom 2, officially titled Venom: Let There be Carnage, received a new trailer today introducing Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson) as Eddie Brock/Venom’s (Tom Hardy) most notable comic book antagonist, Carnage.

Visiting the infamous serial killer where he’s imprisoned at Ravenhurst, Cletus takes advantage of Eddie’s proximity to sink his incisors into his hand, swallowing down some of his alien symbiote DNA. Cletus later transforms into a monstrosity so vicious he initially scares Venom back inside of Eddie when the pair first lays on him.

When we last saw Eddie and Venom at the end of the 2018 film, the two had come to terms on an agreement that would allow Venom to consume criminals while Eddie lived a mostly normal life. But based on what we see in the trailer, it appears that the pair have hit a rocky patch.

New Venom 2 trailer teases another Marvel villain

Apart from Carnage, the new trailer for Venom 2 also teases a look at Naomi Harris’s character, Frances Barrison, also known as Shriek. Shriek is a mutant with banshee-like abilities to produce sonar screams. In the comics, she eventually gets a symbiote of her own and evolves into the villain scorn. She is connected to Cletus and potentially serves as a love interest for him in this film.

We don’t get to see much of Shriek in the trailer, but it seems like she’s going to have a significant role to play in the eventual face-off between Venom and Carnage.

Venom: Let There be Carnage is one of several films slated for release within Sony’s Marvel universe, a franchise separate from the official Marvel Cinematic Universe. Apart from the upcoming Venom sequel, Jared Leto will soon appear in Morbius and Aaron Taylor-Johnson is set to play Kraven the Hunter in the 2023 film.

For now, Venom 2 is expected to release in theaters on September 24, although the new trailer just says “coming this fall.” The recent rise in the Delta variant might affect the film’s release date.
