By Mads Lennon
Ahead of their FrightFest premieres in London later this month, Shudder has acquired horror films The Advent Calendar and Slapface. Both movies will be released exclusively via Shudder in North America, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland.
The Advent Calendar is the perfect Christmas horror film for people who like some scares with their holiday joy and comes from writer/director Patrick Ridremont. Slapface is an award-winning movie by writer/director Jeremiah Kipp.
Slapface and The Advent Calendar will join two other recent Shudder acquisitions, Offseason and The Last Thing Mary Saw, both of which will also premiere at FrightFest, the UK’s biggest fantasy and horror film festival taking place August 26 to 30.
What is The Advent Calendar about?
Most of us have had an advent calendar in our lives at one point or another, but while these special calendars are known for holding chocolates or trinkets, the one in this chilling film is much different. Eva (Eugénie Derouand) is unable to walk and lives life in a wheelchair.
Then one day, her friend Sophie (Honorine Magnier) gifts her a special antique wooden advent calendar, and behind each door is something that could change her life for the better or worse. Most of them are bad, very bad, and Eva must decide between getting rid of the calendar and her chance to walk again or destroying everyone and everything around her.
The Advent Calendar is a French horror film produced by Alain Benguigui, Virginie Ogouz, Jean-Yves Roubin and Cassandre Warnauts.
What is Slapface about?
After losing their mother, two brothers Lucas (August Maturo) and Tom (Mike Manning) believing they only have each other to depend on. But then Lucas starts hearing myths about a creature lurking in the woods, and his curiosity gets the better of him. Is the Virago witch a friend or foe?
