Stanley from American Horror Story: Freak Show

Played by: Denis O’Hare

Why the character was the worst: When a show is set in the past, always expect there to be some downright horrible people. The opinions of the time were horrible but accepted for the time.

Stanley was sort of one of those characters that you just expected to turn up when it came to handling a carnival troupe. A man purely after money, he decided to kill the members of the troupe to hand them over to a museum. People paid to see the body parts of those who were different.

Just going to see the things was bad enough. Stanley went a step further by arranging to kill people to sell body parts. He even teamed up with Dell Toledo to kill Ma Petite to get money.

On top of it all, he had no empathy. He didn’t care about the people he hurt and killed. Nor did he really care about Maggie, saving her and pulling her into his life purely for his own benefit than anything else.

He certainly ended up getting some just desserts. After Maggie shared the full truth about their plan, the troupe mutilated him and locked him in a cage. Nobody really knows what happened to him in the end, but it’s assumed he was killed either by the troupe or by Dandy. Maybe he should have been the one put on display!
