Kai Anderson from American Horror Story: Cult

Played by: Evan Peters

Why the character was the worst: Every season of American Horror Story has a character or two that you just downright hate. There are no redeemable qualities about them, and the show doesn’t even pretend that there are. Kai Anderson is one of those characters.

He’s the leader of the cult in the seventh season of the series. We get to see the scarier side of the 2016 United States presidential election and the aftermath. It was all about those who felt empowered by the hate being spread.

Kai searched for people who had hate in their hearts. He searched for people who looked for someone to follow and teach them what to do. Kai was a narcissist who couldn’t help but build on the power he had and make sure his followers always followed him.

This was a character that got plenty of development. We got to know him extremely well. We saw all the different sides to him, and still, there were no positive feelings for him. Even the backstory that showed up the personal trauma didn’t help add empathy for him. After all, he was an internet troll from the very beginning. All we could do was watch in horror as he spread fear and hate.

He was incapable of love. While he claimed to love his sister, it was an unhealthy obsession that comes with being a narcissist.

While he was one of the worst, he was certainly important for the series overall. We wouldn’t have American Horror Story without characters like this.
