Meadow Wilton from American Horror Story: Cult
Played by: Leslie Grossman
Why the character was the worst: One of the worst things about Meadow Wilson is just how underdeveloped the character was. We barely got to know her on American Horror Story: Cult, with the focus mostly on her arguing with her husband.
To be honest, she was a very resentful woman. That’s not surprising considering her backstory. Due to her melanoma, she had to keep out of the sun and had been laid off from her job. She just couldn’t catch a break, and some of that was sure to turn a woman who could have been nice into a mean and vindictive monster.
The downside was never really getting to see that story. There’s a flaw in storytelling when we have to be told and not shown a backstory. It loses some of the empathy that we could have for the characters.
Maybe there was something redeemable about her at first. It all changed when she chose to join Kai’s cult, designing the clown costumes and killing for him. There was some humanity left in her, but it wasn’t enough to make us feel any bit sorry for her. When Meadow was cut off from the cult, did we really even care?
