Joan Ramsey from American Horror Story: Coven

Played by: Patti LuPone

Why the character was the worst: Ultra religious characters become a lot to handle. They have a lot of opinions that are usually hateful. That was certainly the case with Joan Ramsey.

She was the Academy’s neighbor and hated the witches because of her religious views. In a way, she was just trying to be a protective mother, trying to keep her son Luke away from what she viewed as evil. However, that protection went way too far.

If it had just been her overly religious views, she wouldn’t have made it to this list. However, she turned out to be one of the most hypocritical characters of the season.

Maybe Fiona and Misty should have left Joan dead after Hank killed her. Instead, Misty revived Joan and that led to Joan’s further terrible actions. It turned out she was a remorseless murderer killing her own son and husband.

Nan managed to take care of her in the end. Enraged by Luke’s death, Nan made Joan drink a bottle of bleach, killing her. Was it the right thing to do? Considering she clearly had no empathy or remorse, probably. Had she actually cared about killing her son, living with that remorse would have been better.
