It’s a new month, and that means it’s time to prepare for the best new and returning horror TV shows scaring their way to our screens within the next few weeks! Since we’re inching closer to the Halloween season, there are a few great offerings, but most of the best horror content won’t release until October.

Thankfully, we have at least a few exciting horror TV shows to tide us all over until then! From Mike Flanagan’s highly-anticipated Midnight Mass to Creepshow Season 3, here are some of the best horror TV shows coming out in September.

5. Midnight Mass

From the terrifying mind of Mike Flanagan, the guy who brought us The Haunting and Doctor Sleep, comes a new show with an original premise. Midnight Mass is about a small, isolated island that changes drastically when a charismatic preacher arrives along with a disgraced young man.

What happens when miracles start occurring on the island, seemingly linked to the preacher. And do those miracles come with a price? Hamish Linklater, Zach Gilford, Kate Siegel star in this horror series scheduled for release on September 24. Midnight Mass is easily one of the most hyped horror TV shows coming out this fall.

4. True Crime Story: It Couldn’t Happen Here

Planned to be the first in a true crime franchise at SundanceTV and AMC+, Hilarie Burton Morgan hosts the first installment, True Crime Story: It Couldn’t Happen Here. In the series, Burton Morgan will visit small towns in America to explore how they have been impacted by crime and how the justice system sometimes fails these smaller towns because they fly under the radar. The series premieres on September 9.

3. Creepshow Season 3

Shudder’s excellent and terrifying horror anthology series Creepshow returns this September for its third season. The show will likely also eventually air on AMC, as the second season did, but if you don’t want to wait for that, make sure you check out the show on Shudder starting on September 23.

Like in previous seasons, each episode is a completely different story, so there is no overall synopsis, although you can expect to see a new story from Joe Hill this season!

2. Y: The Last Man

While not strictly a horror series, Y: The Last Man is a dark, post-apocalyptic drama based on a popular comic book series about a cataclysmic event that wipes out every mammal with a Y chromosome on earth. Only one man Yorick Brown (Ben Schnetzer), and his monkey survives. The show follows Yorick as he tries to restore society to what it once was.

Y: The Last Man officially premieres on September 13 exclusively through FX on Hulu, meaning it streams on Hulu.

1. What We Do in the Shadows Season 3

What We Do in the Shadows finally returns for its third season on September 2, exclusively on FX. Even better news for fans of the hilarious vampire satire, the show has already been renewed for a fourth season ahead of its upcoming premiere. The third season will focus on the reveal of Guillermo being a vampire killer and the panic that revelation causes.
