7. Witches of Blackwood

Cassandra Magrath returns to horror almost two decades after Wolf Creek for Witches of Blackwood, which follows Magrath’s character Claire who returns home after her mother’s death and finds that her town is overrun with witchcraft and mysterious darkness.

Witches of Blackwood releases on DVD and on demand on September 7.

6. Night of the Animated Dead

An animated remake of the original 1968 black-and-white film Night of the Living Dead, this new version is a different take on the old story featuring scenes not included in the George Romero classic.

Night of the Animated Dead release digitally on September 21 and then on DVD/Blu-ray on October 5.

5. Martyrs Lane

1428 Elm had the privilege of chatting with Martyrs Lane director Ruth Platt when the film first debuted earlier this summer at Fantasia Fest. Focusing on a child’s perspective of grief and personal loss, Martyrs Lane is a chilling and moving ghost story taking place in a vicarage where a young girl befriends a ghost that starts asking too much of her.

Martyrs Lane premieres exclusively on Shudder on September 9.

4. Intrusion

Logan Marshall-Green and Frieda Pinto star in this upcoming Netflix thriller that focuses on what happens after a horrifying home invasion incident upended a couple’s lives. In the aftermath, Meera (Pinto) struggles to adjust and becomes suspicious of everyone around her.

Intrusion starts streaming on Netflix on September 22.
