Exclusive clip from True Crime Story: It Couldn’t Happen Here

Tomorrow SundanceTV’s new true crime franchise kicks off with True Crime Story: It Couldn’t Happen Here, hosted by small-town community advocate and actress Hilarie Burton Morgan. The new show will shine a light on how violent crime impacts rural small towns, many of which are affected much differently than their neighboring big cities.
1428 Elm is lucky enough to share an exclusive clip ahead of the season premiere tomorrow night! In this special sneak peek, Burton Morgan talks about her attachment to small towns and why she felt this show was so important.
Growing up in small-town Virginia, Burton Morgan was raised in the type of environment where you get to know your neighbors. She has maintained that connection by raising her children in a small town alongside her husband and fellow actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
If you’re a fan of the Morgans, you’ve likely watched their other docuseries Friday Night in with the Morgans, read Burton Morgan’s book The Rural Diaries, or even listened to her on the new One Tree Hill retrospective podcast Drama Queens.
Burton Morgan has always been an advocate of small-town living and currently runs Mischief Farm with her husband and children. Her background and upbringing make Burton Morgan the ideal person to host a show like this one.

The first episode airs tomorrow, September 9, at 10/9c on SundanceTV. Burton Morgan heads to Adel, Georgia, where a man is charged with a brutal murder, but DNA evidence might point to another man as the real killer.
Like the actress mentions in the above clip, part of what is so scary about small-town life is that when a violent crime occurs, odds are you know the victim and the killer, too. Those are the situations, themes, and nuances this six-part docuseries intends to explore.
True Crime Story: It Couldn’t Happen Here premieres on September 9 at 10/9c on SundanceTV.
