Shudder adds Elvira special to 61 Days of Halloween lineup
By Carla Davis
When Shudder released their 61 Days of Halloween schedule, we all knew there would probably be some surprise announcements still coming. The addition of Elvira to the two-month lead-up to Halloween made that assumption a reality.
Shudder announced today that Elvira’s 40th Anniversary, Very Scary, Very Special Special will make its debut on September 25 at 8:00 pm EST. The one-night event will feature four films, and will, of course, be hosted by our Mistress of the Dark.
Featured films will include:
- Elvira: Mistress of the Dark – Elvira inherits an old mansion, but must battle her evil Uncle and distrustful townspeople who think she is evil.
- House on Haunted Hill – Vincent Price stars in this William Castle film as a wealthy man offering $10,000 to invited guests willing to stay the night in a haunted house.
- The City of the Dead – A professor (Christopher Lee) sends a female student to Massachusetts, where supposed witches were burnt in the 17th century.
- Messiah of Evil – A woman looking for her missing father ends up in a seaside town that is home to a mysterious cult.
The special will air in the US and Canada via Shudder’s TV feed and will be available on demand within the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand effective Monday, September 27. It will also be available via AMC+ on the 27th.
Elvira’s new special will be similar to her 1981 series Elvira’s Movie Macabre, wherein she supplied witty commentary for each featured film. The Mistress of the Dark said that turning 40 is never easy, “but what better way to mark the occasion than a one-night stand with Shudder, the spookiest of streamers?”

She proclaimed that this will be “the ultimate Hallow-anniversa-ween bash,” and it is not to be missed. Shudder GM Craig Engler weighed in as well, referring to Elvira as a legend. He said the horror streaming platform is honored to celebrate Elvira’s “career milestone” with the new special. It is, he says, “the perfect treat for Shudder members this Halloween season.”
Shudder has also released a promo for the special, which you can watch at the end of this article.
