The psychological horror from Frida Kempff, Knocking, made its debut at Sundance earlier this year. The new Knocking movie is an Official Selection: World Premiere at Sundance, Göteborg Film Festival, London’s FrightFest, Fantastic Fest, Inside Out, Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival, New Horizons International Film Festival, and Outfest.

Next month, the film will be released in theaters and on demand, but before that, you can find out exactly what it is about, who stars in the movie, watch the trailer, and more.

A timely psychological thriller, Knocking world premiered to great acclaim at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival in the Midnight section. It is the narrative feature debut from Swedish director Frida Kempff, whose past credits include the 2010 Cannes Prix du Jury winning short Bathing Micky and the 2015 documentary Winter Bouy.

Knocking movie synopsis

Knocking stars Cecilia Milocco as Molly, a woman who has recently suffered a traumatic incident and moves into a new apartment as part of her recovery journey. But not long after settling into her place, she starts to hear a series of persistent knocks and screams that wake her up in the middle of the night. Molly desperately tries to find someone to believe her before her life unravels completely as the screaming intensifies.

Knocking release date

Knocking will have a limited theatrical run beginning on October 8 before releasing on digital and demand on October 19. You can preorder the film now through iTunes and Vimeo.

Apart from Milocco, the film also stars Albin Grenholm, Alexander Salzberger, Krister Kern, Ville Virtanen, Charlotta Åkerblom and Naida Ragimova.

Knocking was written by Emma Broström and produced by Erik Andersson for Läsk in collaboration with SVT and the Swedish Film Institute through the initiative Moving Sweden with support from Norrköpings Filmfond. Federico Ambrosini served as executive producer on the film adapted from a novel written by Johan Theorin.
