Subscribers know that on Shudder, it’s ALWAYS Halloween, right? We’re taking a look at some of the best movies on Shudder right now, ideal for the spooky season.

You can access horror content of all kinds 24/7 on the streaming platform, but they definitely step it up for October. So, putting aside the plethora of Halloween films, what are some of the best movies on Shudder right now to get you in the Halloween mood?

Best movies on Shudder right now perfect for a 31 days of Halloween marathon

One of the newest Shudder Exclusives is Seance, which features Suki Waterhouse as the new girl at Edelvine Academy for Girls. Some Edelvine students entertain themselves one evening by trying to contact the ghost of a girl who, as urban legend has it, killed herself in the house.

After a prank goes wrong, Camille (Waterhouse) shows up, and the “mean girls” gang up on her. But, soon enough, the girls all must work together to find out who or what is killing them. Seance is a fun, spooky watch that will keep you busy trying to solve the mystery of what the heck is going on at Edelvine.

Also relatively new to Shudder is season three of their Original Creepshow series. Inspired by the iconic 1982 comic-book-style film, this anthology series sticks to the film’s format, which Stephen King and George A. Romero created.

There is a little bit of everything in the stories you will see on Creepshow: gore, horror, dark comedy, rough justice… there’s something for every mood. And with three seasons to binge, the fun can last for a while. There’s even a Halloween story (season one’s All Hallow’s Eve), an animated special and a Christmas special.

Anything for Jackson was released on Shudder in December of 2020. After the sudden death of their beloved grandson Jackson, an elderly couple decides they will do anything to get him back, including joining a group of Satanists, kidnapping a pregnant woman and planning a ritual that will bring back Jackson.

Anything for Jackson isn’t your average horror flick because it starts in a dark comedy vein before turning on the shocks and gore. There was one unexpected scene that made me jump out of my chair, and there was plenty of blood present.

Strong performances by Julian Richings and Sheila McCarthy as the grandparents are the backbone of Anything for Jackson, and it’s the perfect creepy watch for October.

Also released on Shudder in 2020 is The Cleansing Hour, a possession film that packs a fun and scary punch. Max and Drew are friends from childhood, and they now host a livestream show called The Cleansing Hour, in which “Father Max” supposedly performs exorcisms.

Drew’s fiancée Lane reluctantly agrees to fill in when the latest “possessed” actor doesn’t show up for filming. She proceeds to give one hell of a performance (literally)…except, as it turns out, she’s not acting. The Cleansing Hour is a harrowing film, with Alix Angelis giving a fantastic performance as Lane, and the ending is brilliant.

If pitch-black horror is your jam, you shouldn’t miss the intense The Dark and the Wicked. Michael and Louise are siblings who return to the family farm to help their mother, who is tending to their terminally ill father. Mom is doing some disturbing things and seems to believe there is an evil presence in the house.

I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say that she is not wrong, and this horror story will start to relentlessly creep under your skin, making you a jittery mess by the end. Strong acting performances, a tense musical score and a horrifying story, make The Dark and the Wicked a must-see slow burn.
