Chucky Season 1, Episode 1: Who is Chucky’s first victim?
By Mads Lennon
Let’s be honest, one of the main reasons we watch Child’s Play and related Chucky movies is to see who the killer doll will kill and how he does it. That desire extends to the new SYFY television series, which premiered tonight. Who did Chucky kill first in Chucky Season 1? Who received that honor?
Obviously, this article will get into SPOILER territory, so if you haven’t watched the premiere yet, you should turn back now to prevent being spoiled on the first significant death!
In the Chucky series premiere, we’re introduced to Jake Wheeler (Zackary Arthur), who purchases a Good Guy doll at a yard sale because it’s retro. Unbeknownst to Jake, that Good Guy doll is possessed by serial killer Charles “Chucky” Lee Ray. Chaos ensues.
Chucky Season 1, Episode 1: Who is Chucky’s first victim?
It doesn’t take long for Chucky to start killing. If you were worried that a television show would mean it takes longer to get to the murder, you thought wrong. By the end of the first episode, Chucky has killed Jake’s dad, Luke Wheeler (Devon Sawa).
He does so in a predictably “Chucky” fashion, too, by vomiting whiskey all over Luke’s feet while he’s standing on hot electrical wires, resulting in a drawn-out electrocution death. The detectives rule it “death by misadventure.” It’s not like Luke didn’t have it coming, though, what with him being an abusive homophobe toward his son.
Is Devon Sawa leaving Chucky Season 1?
Thankfully for fans of Sawa, he is playing double duty on the show, so even though Luke is dead, Sawa is still very much a part of the first season, at least for now. But who knows? Maybe his other character, Luke’s twin brother (Jake’s uncle) Logan, will die, too. Although we hope not because who doesn’t love Devon Sawa?
New episodes of Chucky Season 1 air Tuesday nights at 10:00 p.m. EST on SYFY.
