10. The Killing of the Sacred Deer (2017)

Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman star in this devastating and haunting psychological thriller about an odd, fatherless teen, Martin (Barry Keoghan), on the outskirts of an idyllic suburb who slowly ingratiates himself into their family’s life. Dr. Steven Murphy (Farrell), an accomplished surgeon, is horrified when Martin infiltrates his home and starts to seek revenge for a past transgression in increasingly terrifying ways. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, the mastermind behind other great films like The Lobster and The Favourite, The Killing of the Sacred Deer is the kind of film that is impossible to forget.

9. Fear Street (2021)

All three Fear Street movies were critically acclaimed, a rarity with Netflix horror movies. The trilogy is based on the book series of the same name by R.L. Stine. The first film takes place in 1994, the second in 1978 and the third in 1666. The story begins in 1994 where a teen and her friends take on a brutal force that has plagued their town for centuries.

As the trilogy unfolds, we find out exactly where this strange curse originated and whether or not the teens at the center can stop it. If you like Stranger Things then Fear Street should definitely be next on your watchlist. These films have definitely earned their place among the best horror movies on Netflix.

8. Verónica (2017)

This Spanish supernatural horror film is considered one of the scariest movies of all time, nonetheless one of the most frightening on Netflix. The story centers on a solar eclipse where a teenage girl and her friends attempt to summon the spirit of the girl’s father via Ouija board. As you can guess, things don’t go quite the way she intended.
