The most recent episode of the Chucky TV series gave diehard fans something else to get excited about. Toward the end of Chucky Episode 4, we saw a flashback showing Charles Lee Ray giving (spoiler alert!) his eventual partner-in-crime Eddie Caputo a gift to remember him by!

During the Charles Lee Ray flashback segments in the fourth episode, we got to see a glimpse of Charles’s time at the Burlington County Home, where he was sent after his parents were murdered. While there, Charles killed the janitor and even showed the body to some other young boys.

Ultimately, the murder led to Charles fleeing the home, but not before delivering a parting gift to one of his old friends. He delivered Eddie the janitor’s severed hand before departing. If you paid close attention, you heard one of the attendants call the kid by his name, “Eddie Caputo,” confirming his place in the continued Child’s Play universe.

Chucky TV Series: Are we going to get Eddie Caputo’s backstory?

The inclusion of Eddie shows that the Chucky TV series is paying homage to the early films in the franchise. It’s nice to know that Don Mancini is keeping things cohesive and not retconning anything, although I’m sure not many were anticipating Eddie to make an appearance.

Before the show, the only time we saw Eddie was during the original Child’s Play (1988). Eddie was present at the store where the pair made their last stand, and Charles ultimately transferred his soul into a Good Guy doll. Eddie tried to abandon Charles after he got shot in the leg, resulting in Charles pledging vengeance against his partner for his cowardice. Eddie wound up becoming Chucky’s second victim in the film.

Since Eddie is dead in canon, it’s not likely he’ll return in the future, but then again? Who knows? Even if he doesn’t, the flashback is a fun easter egg for fans, and it opens the door for us to see more interactions between the two in these segments later in the season.
