Guillermo del Toro’s highly anticipated new project, Nightmare Alley, is releasing soon, but unfortunately, it is not coming out in November 2021.

Last month, the del Toro-produced film Antlers was released after being delayed several times, but Nightmare Alley is the first film the acclaimed filmmaker has directed since the acclaimed and award-winning 2017 The Shape of Water, which took home Best Picture.

For those unfamiliar with the new film, it is based on the 1946 novel of the same name by William Lindsay Gresham. The story revolves around an ambitious carny named Stan Carlisle, who has a knack for manipulating people, but he meets his match in psychiatrist Dr. Lilith Ritter, who is even more dangerous.

Apart from del Toro, the film boasts an all-star cast including Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins, Rooney Mara, Ron Perlman and David Strathairn.

The upcoming movie distributed by Searchlight Pictures is actually the second adaptation of Gresham’s novel. The previous version, which came out in 1947, was directed by Edmund Goulding, starred Tyrone Power, and featured Joan Blondell, Coleen Gray, and Helen Walker.

When does Nightmare Alley come out?

You will have to wait a little bit longer to watch the psychological thriller. As of right now, the movie is scheduled for release on Friday, December 17, 2021. For the time being, Nightmare Alley will be released theatrically only. It does not look like there are plans for a streaming release at the moment.

Horror fans will have a busy day since the new season of The Witcher also releases on that same date. The entire second season will drop on Netflix at midnight PT/3:00 a.m. ET on that Friday.

The original release date was set for December 3 but was later pushed back by two weeks to the current date. Are you planning to see Nightmare Alley in theaters, or will you wait for it to come out on-demand or streaming?
