If you’ve been waiting for the return of Tiffany Valentine and Nica Pierce, then Chucky Episode 5 probably made you super happy. Not only that, but the latest episode of the show (which also serves as its midpoint since it looks like it will consist of ten episodes in its first season) follows up on several other plot points from the 2017 film Cult of Chucky.

Outside of things happening in Hackensack, the fifth episode, “Little Little Lies,” provided us with some key insight into a few of Chucky’s allies and enemies. Plus, we got to see more flashbacks into Charles Lee Ray’s past.

Chucky Episode 5 sees the return of Tiffany Valentine & Nica Pierce

Fan-favorite characters Tiffany Valentine and Nica Pierce finally returned in this week’s episode after significant teasing from creator Don Mancini and actress Jennifer Tilly. Tiffany and Nica are somewhere together murdering people for fun and generally being in love, well, sort of. The real Nica is still very much possessed by part of Chucky’s soul.

At one point during Chucky Episode 5, she manages to fight off the possession and almost saves her and Tiff’s latest victim before the serial killer takes over once again. Without Chucky in control of her body, Nica returns to being a paraplegic.

Chucky Episode 5 reminds us that Chucky split his soul

A significant plot point in the 2017 film is Chucky learning how to “split” his soul, you know, Voldemort/horcrux-style. By doing so, Chucky creates a “cult” of other Chuckies, hence the title of the film. Spooky.

For the first time, the Chucky TV series addresses this concept. In some ways, Chucky Episode 5 by itself is almost a direct sequel to the movie, but it also does a good job of doing a quick summary and backstory for these characters and components so newcomers can understand what’s going on.

Since Chucky’s soul is split, that’s why Nica is still “Chucky” yet Charles Lee Ray is also still able to jump into a new Good Guy doll back in Hackensack. It remains to be seen if there are other soul pieces still around possessing other people right now.
