Joe Bob Briggs to spread Christmas fear with holiday special
By Carla Davis
We’ve got good news for fans of Shudder’s The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs. Joe Bob, Darcy and The Last Drive-In crew will be dishing out some Christmas spirit with a new special.
The holiday specials always give fans of The Last Drive-In something to look forward to, and they have been waiting for this particular announcement. Although the past couple of years have included a Thanksgiving special and a Valentine’s Day special, Halloween and Christmas installments have been consistent since Joe Bob moved to Shudder in 2018.
There is no announcement yet about which two films Joe Bob Ruins Christmas will feature. Previous selections have been all over the Shudder map. Joe Bob’s Red Christmas included the original Black Christmas, Jack Frost and Silent Night Deadly Night 2, all of which were Christmas-related.
Last year’s Joe Bob Saves Christmas featured Deadly Games and Christmas Evil, also including Christmas as their main themes. But, 2018’s A Very Joe Bob Christmas selected Phantasm, Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead, Phantasm IV: Oblivion and Phantasm: Ravager, none of which are really regarded as Christmas content.
Joe Bob Briggs’ tweet indicated that this year’s installment might not include Christmas-themed films either.
In today’s tweet, Joe Bob referred to “genre-bending movie choices that are guaranteed to make you say, ‘Huh? What? Explain that one again.'” Coupled with the fact that the new special is titled Joe Bob Ruins Christmas, it looks like he and co-host Darcy the Mail Girl are attempting to make literal-minded fans’ heads explode.
Last month’s Halloween special featured Angel, and many fans were frustrated that they didn’t choose Halloween-themed films. Note: I was not disappointed, I had never even heard of Angel, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
When does Joe Bob Briggs’ new Christmas special debut on Shudder?
Judging by his tweet, it seems that some Christmas cheer will still be spread this year, however, as the announcement indicates there will be another auction and “telethon.” Whatever Joe Bob Briggs decides to give us this year, no doubt die-hard fans will be tuning in.
Joe Bob Ruins Christmas will make its debut on Shudder on Friday, December 17 at 9:00 pm ET. Typically, the specials are available on demand the following Sunday, so if you can’t watch it live, you can catch it a couple of days later.
