Netflix has unveiled the official release date and first look at the upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie, set to release in early 2022.

Leatherface is about to return to our screens in all of his bloody gory. Netflix has finally released the first official look and release date for the highly-anticipated new film in the long-running franchise Texas Chainsaw Massacre that originated with Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic.

We haven’t seen Leatherface in a new movie since the 2017 feature Leatherface, a mostly panned origin story. The new film brings to life a story by Fede Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues with the screenplay written by Chris Thomas Devlin. David Blue Gracia directs.

The movie stars Sarah Yarkin, Elsie Fisher, Mark Burnham, Moe Dunford, Nell Hudson, Jessica Allain, Olwen Fouéré, Jacob Latimore and Alice Krige.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre release date

Thankfully, we don’t have to wait too long for the movie to release. Netflix has announced that Leatherface will officially return to terrorize another generation on February 18, 2022.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre synopsis

The logline for the movie reads:

"After nearly 50 years of hiding, Leatherface returns to terrorize a group of idealistic young friends who accidentally disrupt his carefully shielded world in a remote Texas town."

Melody, her sister Lila, and their friends Dante and Ruth head to a remote town in Texas to start a new business venture. But as we all know, visiting any Texan city of these movies is a certified death wish. In this entry, Sally Hardesty is set to return to exact her revenge on Leatherface for the infamous 1973 massacre.

I’m guessing the writers are taking a leaf out of Halloween‘s book by bringing back the original final girl. It’s very similar to what Halloween did with the 2018 reboot. Olwen Fouéré will play Hardesty in the 2022 film.
