Mike Flanagan has more than proven himself as a horror genre legend with several excellent movies and now at least two amazing horror shows on his resume. He has more projects lined up in the future and it’s hard not to become impatient waiting on their arrival, especially The Midnight Club.

Released in October 2021, Midnight Mass is a religious and supernatural horror series centered on the isolated Crockett Island. When a young man returns to his secluded hometown in the hopes of rebuilding his life after spending several years in prison, he happens to arrive at the same time as a young and charismatic priest who appears to be harboring a dark secret. It soon becomes apparent that the priest’s agenda in this small town might not be the greater good, as he exacerbates tensions between different factions of faith.

If you liked The Haunting of Hill House, in particular, then you know what to expect going into Midnight Mass. It’s the same type of slow-burning emotional horror that Flanagan has made his career out of, and yes, monologues, lots of beautifully rendered monologues.

Verdict: WATCH
