As the longest-running live-action fantasy/horror series, Supernatural has an undeniable legacy with a massive fan following. The show ended in 2020 after running for more than 300 episodes across 15 seasons, a pretty impressive feat for any series.

Led by Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, who played the stars, Sam and Dean Winchester, it would be impossible to write a list like this and not include this contemporary hit. The show begins with a simple enough premise of two brothers searching for their dad after he disappears on a “hunting” trip.

Of course, viewers quickly learn that in the world of Supernatural, hunting actually means looking for monsters and killing them. Most of the series functions with a monster-of-the-week format popularized by shows like Buffy and The X-Files, but there is also a myth arc throughout the series, too. By later seasons, the brothers have literally faced off against angels, demons, Lucifer, and even God himself.

The bond between brothers is what keeps Sam and Dean anchored throughout their battles with heaven and hell. And while some seasons are certainly better than others, with the first five seasons generally being considered the best of the best, Supernatural is still a wild ride worth taking.
