Based on the horror novel of the same name by Joe Hill, NOS4A2 is a unique horror television series about a young artist with supernatural abilities trying to track down an immortal being that preys on children. Victoria “Vic” McQueen is intent on finding Charlie Manx, a horrifying monster that eats childrens’ souls and then deposits their remains into a twisted Christmasland where every day is Christmas and unhappiness is against the law.
Vic must go to extreme lengths to defeat Manx and save his victims. While Zachary Quinto and Ashleigh Cummings do a great job in the leading roles, NOS4A2 just falls a little flat overall. The pacing is extremely slow and the show seems to struggle with balancing the more interesting horror storylines with the interpersonal drama between other characters that aren’t really relevant to the overall story.
It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what’s wrong with the show but something about it just doesn’t sparkle or grip you and make you eager to hit the “next episode” button the way television should.
