Another Stephen King series, Lisey’s Story has the rare distinction of being a horror series based on a King novel that King himself actually wrote. The esteemed horror author actually penned every episode of the show.

The series is about Lisa, or Lisey, Landon, the widow of a famous fiction author. Lisey is still mourning for her husband and trying to fend off vultures interested in his unpublished manuscripts. While looking through his possessions, she finds that her husband has left her a treasure hunt.

But what Lisey doesn’t know is that she has a dangerous stalker on her tail who believes she is keeping her husband’s gift from the world by not releasing the manuscripts. The problem with Lisey’s Story is that it’s just outright confusing, especially if you haven’t read the book.

The storyline is difficult to follow, it feels like King expected every viewer to have read the book which makes it hard for casual viewers to jump in. That said, Dane DeHaan is genuinely horrifying in his role on this show and there are some truly frightening sequences throughout the season. But overall, King has better shows out there. One thing is for certain, if you watch Lisey’s Story, you’ll never look at a pizza cutter the same way again.

Verdict: SKIP
