When Stranger Things premiered in 2016, it’s hard to believe that Netflix understood the blockbuster hit they had on their hands. Since then, Stranger Things has blown up into a global success with tons of merchandise and even spinoff comics. A fourth season is on the way next year.

The show beings with a simple enough premise. In 1980s Indiana, a group of kids investigates the disappearance of their close friend, slowly unraveling a government conspiracy and a dark supernatural force running throughout the small town of Hawkins, Indiana. Stranger Things has received numerous awards and nominations.

Part of the show’s appeal is the way it directly taps into nostalgia for the ’80s era. The show is full of fun references and easter eggs to Stephen King’s works and other popular movies from that time like E.T. and Poltergeist. It’s a show for pop culture lovers and the characters are just so lovable it’s hard not to get sucked into the story.
