American Horror Stories is the first official American Horror Story spinoff and an FX/Hulu exclusive. Released this past summer, the series is a little different in format from its parent series as each episode is a different story rather than every season. In theory, that would allow this show to stand out and give the writers and creators more creative freedom.

Unfortunately, the spinoff series was almost universally panned by fans and critics alike. A return to Murder House (again) was met with frustration by many (including me) who felt that particular setting and storyline had been run into the ground.

There were a few standout episodes, including one of the later installments starring Billie Lourd (“Ba’al”), but beyond that, this spinoff felt half-cooked and like a watered-down version of AHS. That said, it did receive a season 2 renewal, so perhaps the next season will feature better installments. For now, I don’t recommend wasting your time with this one when there are much better shows out there.

Verdict: SKIP
