Servant renewed for fourth and final season ahead of season 3 premiere

The Apple TV+ psychological thriller Servant has been renewed for a fourth and final season ahead of the show’s upcoming season 3 premiere. M. Night Shyamalan serves as the executive producer for the show and announced that he was thrilled to have the chance to tell a complete story in 40 episodes, meaning both seasons three and four will contain 10 episodes each, just like the first two installments.
Set in Philadelphia, Servant follows married couple Sean (Toby Kebbell) and Dorothy (Lauren Ambrose) Turner, who suffer a traumatic loss when their 13-week-old son Jericho dies. Unable to handle the tragedy, Sean enlists the assistance of a therapist and Dorothy’s brother Julian (Rupert Grint) to get Dorothy a reborn doll for a temporary solution via object transference therapy.
Believing the doll is real, Dorothy hires a nanny, Leanne (Nell Tiger Free), who we later discover has secret powers and ties to a mysterious cult.
Servant season 3 is set to premiere on January 21, 2022. The renewal news comes from Variety, although rumors have been circulating for a while now.
Servant will end with its fourth and final season
Shortly after the news broke, Shyamalan followed up with a tweet confirming the update and adding that the upcoming fourth season will be the show’s last. It’s not often that a creator gets to end their show on their own terms, especially with so many series getting canceled fast nowadays. It’s nice to know that Servant will tell a complete story.
“I set the goal to tell 1 story in 40 episodes knowing there was no guarantee we would achieve it. It was a huge risk. Thanks @AppleTVPlus & #Servant cast, crew, & fans,” said the filmmaker.
Even though fans might be sad that there are just two seasons of the show left, the fact that the writers have plenty of notice and that four seasons was the plan from the beginning is a good sign that the series will have closure.
Servant season 4 release date
Since the third season is premiering in January, we probably won’t see the fourth season until early 2023.
