Netflix in January 2022: Dark Shadows (2012)

Based on the 1966 soap opera of the same name, Dark Shadows is a feature-length remake directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Chloë Grace Moretz, Jonny Lee Miller, Eva Green, Bella Heathcoate and Michelle Pfeiffer.

The story revolves around playboy Barnabas Collins (Depp) who presides over the town of Collinsport. One day, Barnabas makes the fatal mistake of breaking a witch’s heart and in return, she turns him into a vampire and buries him alive. Barnabas escapes from his tomb two centuries later to find Collinsport has changed dramatically and his family is more dysfunctional than ever.

Netflix in January 2022: Godzilla (1998)

This 1998 film starring Matthew Broderick, Jean Reno, Maria Pitillo, Hank Azaria, Kevin Dunn, Michael Lerner and Harry Shearer is the 23rd film in the overall Godzilla franchise and the first film to be 100 percent completed by a Hollywood studio.

In this Roland Emmerich-directed movie, the French government began experimenting with radiation on a lizard nest, inadvertently mutating one of the reptiles which later evolves into a monstrous creature dubbed “Godzilla” by news outlets. Dr. Niko Tatopolous (Broderick) is called in to offer his expert advice on the radioactive effects on animals as Godzilla wages war against the U.S. military. To make matters worse, the doctor later discovers that Godzilla has laid 200 eggs.
